Camp Felix is a sleepaway camp, Monday through Friday while camp is in session.  Mandatory Staff Training: July 30 - August 2 in Manhattan | August 3 and 4 onsite in Sandyston, NJ (transportation provided) Camp Sessions:  August 5 - August 9 August 12 - August 16   Salary: $600/Week   Specific responsibilities include: - Ensure safety and well-being of campers in the assigned cabin. - Sleep in the same cabin as campers. - Arrange for proper upkeep of cabin; report maintenance problems immediately to supervisor. - Supervise campers such that they are protected from any unreasonable risk to their health or safety, including bullying, abuse or any public health hazard. - Maintain visual or verbal communications capabilities between camper and counselor during activities and a method of accounting for the camper's whereabouts at all times. - Organize and supervise daily group activities according to schedule; ensure timely arrival and departure at all daily activities. - Supervise campers during all activities, participate in activities with them, and encourage them to participate as much as possible (i.e. arts & crafts, sports, hiking, dance, music, theater, swimming, etc). - Supervise campers during mealtime; serve food to campers and ensure that all campers are eating their meals. - Supervise campers after lights out, if on duty. - Supervise campers during shower time. - Help to prevent dangerous situations by minimizing risks. - Recognize and handle emergencies as per Camp Felix policies and procedures. - Help campers grow and develop by providing positive reinforcement, guidance, support and care. - Utilize positive and supportive techniques and strategies to resolve problems and enforce discipline among campers. - Participate in pre-camp training. - Assist during transportation to/from camp, supervise campers while on the bus, assist with bus loading/unloading at camp. - Other duties as assigned. - Opportunity to earn additional money through bonuses The New York Foundling is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse employee population, the Foundling will honor your experiences, perspectives and unique identity. Camp Felix is a sleepaway camp, Monday through Friday while camp is in session.    Mandatory Staff Training: July 30 - August 2 in Manhattan | August 3 and 4 onsite in Sandyston, NJ (transportation provided)   Camp Sessions:  August 5 - August 9 August 12 - August 16   Salary: $900/week   Specific responsibilities include: - Act as direct supervisor to Counselors and Senior Counselors. - Observe counselor’s performance in order to make appropriate improvements. - Report observations regarding staff performance to Camp Director and Assistant Director at meetings and informally, as needed. - Provide ongoing verbal feedback to Counselors regarding their performance, positive and negative. - Write reviews of staff performance and discuss findings with staff during scheduled supervisory conferences. - Help to resolve conflicts among staff members and/or campers with the assistance of the Camp Director and/or Assistant Director. - Provide support to Counselors when needed. - Confront problems or concerns with staff in a constructive manner. - Establish and maintain a positive relationship with staff so they can accept instruction. - Delegate necessary tasks to staff. - Understand tasks required of Counselors. - Teach skills to Counselors as needed and assess implementation of new skills. - Ensure that Counselors are following their daily schedules with the campers (arriving at activities on time, etc). - Keep Counselors informed about changes in the schedule. - Assist with planning and implementation of activities as needed including specialty activities such as swimming, Electives, evening activities, Olympics, Arts Week, etc. - Participate in staff training and help deliver parts of the staff training during training week; reinforce staff training during the camp season. - Assist with arrangements for transportation of supplies and distribution/storage of supplies at camp. - Participate in the end-of-summer inventory process to plan for what is needed next summer. - Assist during camper transportation to/from camp, supervise campers while on the bus, assist with bus loading/unloading at camp. - Help to implement camp mission, vision and goals as well as the camp policies and procedures. - Assist with oversight of the CIT program. - Serve as an exemplary role model for all camp staff. - Assist with end-of-camp clean up and packing process. - Assist with planning and implementing a successful Open House event during week 3 of camp. - Participate in end-of-camp staff evaluation process and camper questionnaire process. - Enforce safety and health regulations. - Assists in responding to emergencies in a manner consistent with camp safety policy and procedures.
