Overview

At The New York Foundling, we trust in the power and potential of people, and we deliberately invest in proven practices. From bold beginnings in 1869, our New York-based nonprofit has supported hundreds of thousands of our neighbors on their own paths to stability, strength, and independence.  We help children and families navigate through and beyond foster care. We help families struggling with conflict and poverty grow strong. We help individuals with developmental disabilities live their best lives, and we help our neighbors access quality health and mental health services—core to building lifelong resilience and wellbeing. Together, our interrelated programs provide a whole-person, whole-family, and whole-life approach that unlocks solutions for a lifetime.

The Department of Specialized Clinical and Psychiatric Services (SCPS) consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, community providers and administrators providing a wide range of evidenced-based, trauma-informed models and services tailored to the evolving and complex needs of families, and regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay, including Trauma-Focused CBT, Trauma Systems Therapy, CBT, specialized individual and family therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients, and school-based therapy. We offer a hybrid schedule, an opportunity to be a part of a multidisciplinary team, clinical trainings in evidence-based modalitiesdepartmental didactics, and supervision to support obtaining licensure.

Within SCPS, the School Based Mental Health Program (SBMH) partners with schools around NYC to increase accessibility of mental health services to families by bringing high quality, evidence-based mental health treatment inside schools where any child enrolled in public schools can reach them. We also aim to build school’s capacity to meet the social and emotional needs of their students by empowering schools to think and operate proactively and relationally through ongoing collaboration, school faculty consultations, and delivering workshops to the school community.
