Responsibilities

The Housing Specialist role is to complete targeted tasks that will help young adults identify and achieve their housing goals. This includes also supporting with furniture assistance as well as obtaining and maintain housing in NYC. The Housing Specialist will report directly to the Fair Futures Coach Supervisor. 

 1.Assist youth with the goal of APPLA locate housing by maintaining and developing a relationship with the youth

2. Complete all housing applications (NYCHA/Section 8/SH &Vouchers) T to assist youth with locating permanent housing in NYC

3. Collaborate with stakeholders & agency staff (medical/MH/ case planning) to support youth with the housing process

4. Request Furniture Grant Assistance to assist youth with obtaining furniture for their new apartment/home

5. Responsible for ensuring that all documentation is in accordance with agency/ACS/Fair Futures policy in CNNX, & Care4 database systems

6. Responsible for attending coaching as well as all agency/ACS/Fair Futures trainings in accordance with job position 

7. Setting up interview/apartment viewings to support youth with making an informed decision regarding housing and housing programs 

8. Responsible for making outreach to all APPLA youth to begin the housing process once they turn 18yrs old

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety. (Psychology, Sociology Degree Preferred)  
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a social service or housing agency
  • Knowledgeable on NYC housing options for youth aging out of foster care and low-income housing programs.
  • Ability to work with diverse population and work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, youth development lens
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to relate to young people, engage them in conversation, and provide support and encouragement
  • Knowledgeable in Excel, Word, TEAMS, Outlook & Power Point, CONNXs, Car4 & Evolv NX
  • Ability to be a self-starter, and proactive, as well as be able to travel as needed

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
