Overview

At The New York Foundling, we trust in the power and potential of people, and we deliberately invest in proven practices. From bold beginnings in 1869, our New York-based nonprofit has supported hundreds of thousands of our neighbors on their own paths to stability, strength, and independence.  We help children and families navigate through and beyond foster care. We help families struggling with conflict and poverty grow strong. We help individuals with developmental disabilities live their best lives, and we help our neighbors access quality health and mental health services—core to building lifelong resilience and wellbeing. Together, our interrelated programs provide a whole-person, whole-family, and whole-life approach that unlocks solutions for a lifetime.

Responsibilities

Provide interactive and culturally responsive nutrition education for mothers, babies, and children through community-based programs, cooking classes, and tailored workshops, with a focus on promoting healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

Core Reponsibilities:

  1. Deliver interactive, hands-on nutrition education for mothers, babies, and children, incorporating cooking classes, nutrition workshops, and other hands-on activities to enhance the level of learning for future experiences and measuring it through satisfaction surveys.
  2. For all engagement with clients, the nutrition educator will design engaging, culturally sensitive and age-appropriate educational materials in order to maximize engagement using Canva and other tools, including handouts, presentations, and visual aids that are personalized for all clients. Materials will be used for AOBH, clinics and other corporate nutrition events as requested by the AVP.
  3. Conduct workshops based on the AVPs assessment of the needs of the population in the community and school-based settings. The nutrition educator will adapt the methods of education for age-appropriate and culturally relevant learning experiences. This will in turn assist in increasing clients from the community.

  5. Actively participates in the development and idea-sharing of nutrition programs, workshops and activities for the clients and NYF staff.
  6. Adapt already-existing NYF nutrition materials and teaching approaches to, in a more focused matter, take into account differences in cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic needs of the community.
  7. Represent the organization in community events and outreach initiatives by sharing the nutrition services available at the New York Foundling to increase enrollment with efforts to communicate the services that can be offered and how to obtain them.
