Overview

At The New York Foundling, we trust in the power and potential of people, and we deliberately invest in proven practices. From bold beginnings in 1869, our New York-based nonprofit has supported hundreds of thousands of our neighbors on their own paths to stability, strength, and independence.  We help children and families navigate through and beyond foster care. We help families struggling with conflict and poverty grow strong. We help individuals with developmental disabilities live their best lives, and we help our neighbors access quality health and mental health services—core to building lifelong resilience and wellbeing. Together, our interrelated programs provide a whole-person, whole-family, and whole-life approach that unlocks solutions for a lifetime.

The New York Foundling is the city’s premiere provider of evidence based mental health services in the public sector. In our East Harlem community mental health clinic (article 31), the Home of Integrated Behavioral Health; in our four integrated medical and mental health clinics for youth in foster care; in our school-based mental health programs; and in our in-home therapy programs throughout the five boroughs, we provide a wide range of evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment models and services tailored to the needs of families, and regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

The Department of Specialized Clinical and Psychiatric Services consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and administrators working within our five clinics and utilizing models including Trauma-Focused CBT, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Trauma Systems Therapy, CBT for anxiety and depression, and specialized individual and family therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients, among others. We work in multidisciplinary teams with low caseloads, high support, and data-driven operations.
