Overview

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the provision of comprehensive psychiatric care to clients in the SCPS Care Mental Health clinics. This position has flexible, hybrid-model scheduling, with the incumbent working 60% time in the office at our Brooklyn clinic and on average one day per month in our Staten Island Clinic. Reports to the SVP of Mental Health.

Responsibilities

  • Timely completion of psychiatric screenings and comprehensive evaluations of assigned children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Psychotherapeutic intervention including psychopharmacologic management and monitoring
  • Review of all health documents submitted to the agency regarding assigned mental health clinic patient population
  • Participation in treatment team, care planning, dispositional and other conferences to ensure continuity of care
  • Documentation of all service provision, reports, medical forms, Treatment Plans, and other required health documents correctly, completely, and in a timely fashion as required
  • Clinical consultation/collaboration with internal and external health and mental health practitioners
  • Make appropriate referrals and recommendations to internal/external ancillary mental health practitioners
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in child psychiatry as they relate to children and adolescents in foster care through continuous review of the literature and through utilization of the time allotted for continuing education
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Must be a NYS Board Certified Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Psychiatry.
  • ANCC Certification required
  • ASAM Certification required;
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Computer literacy
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical psychiatric experience in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Experience working with the child welfare population
  • Ability to travel within assigned area Borough

 

Education Required

Masters’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
