Day habilitation Specialist displays a congenial, warm acceptance for all individuals. They interact constantly with the individuals to develop a sense of security and belonging. Is responsible to support and supervise the individuals visiting the particular program assigned. Interprets the Agency policies and program to the individual, other Day Habilitation Specialist and the community. Is alert to the expressions of attitudes, feelings and relationships of each individual. Develops an awareness of the individual's needs, not only through the observation and interaction of everyday living but, also through a study of the individual's case history and by appropriate consultation with other members of the staff.

 

 

Salary range: $17.72 - $18.52

Responsibilities

  • Day habilitation Specialist displays a congenial, warm acceptance for all individuals.

  • Is responsible to support and supervise the individuals visiting the particular program assigned.
  • Interprets the Agency policies and program to the individual, other Day Habilitation Specialist and the community.
  • Is alert to the expressions of attitudes, feelings and relationships of each individual. Develops an awareness of the individual’s needs, not only through the observation and interaction of everyday living but, also through a study of the individual’s case history and by appropriate consultation with other members of the staff.
  • Must keep a record of pertinent observations and impressions about the group and the individual’s behavior.
  • Attempts to form a meaningful relationship with each individual in the group. S/he helps each individual make the most of his/her day at program.
  • Is responsible for matters of everyday living concerning personal cleanliness of the individual, and cleanliness of the program area, furniture, supplies and habilitation activities.
  • Provide a solid program of constructive and interesting activities for the individuals.
  • It is essential that Day Habilitation Specialist know and protect individual’s rights.
  • Maintain control of the individuals within the program in a discreet and non-threatening manner.
  • Must keep accurate records, pertaining to the day-to-day operation of the Day Habilitation program. Be sure to record and report any unusual or bizarre behaviors or incidents.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years experience in the I/DD field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field and 1 year experience in the I/DD field.
  • Familiarity of IRA regulations relative to residential habilitation.
  • Proficient in computer applications
  • Must have a clean and valid NY, NJ CT, or PA driver’s license with 6 points or less
  • Maintain all certifications. Including but not limited to the following: First aid, CPR and SCIP.
